Teachers as Scholars

The notion of teachers working as scholars is alien to most schools. Very few school managements understand the power of scholarship in improving teaching practices, and therefore it is seldom encouraged.

In our school, the teachers will work as scholars – researching their own practice by reflecting on, documenting and presenting their work, observing the work of others, and comparing best practices. There will be regular teacher-conclaves where teachers from different schools share their successes and struggles. Just as with students, when teachers have to make their work public, they are driven to put in unusual effort and thoughtfulness in their practice.
